Last week we started a collaboration with students iARTS in their second year, and designer Nina Simons of Studio Kernland.
The upcoming weeks we will be testing the first and second phase of the Intervention Design approach with two organisations in the eastern area of the south of Limburg: Brightlands Hive and Cube Design Museum.
Cube Design Museum in Kerkrade is not only a museum about design but also a Design Lab where designers and design students from all over the world design for human needs. Currently, Cube is involved in a European project that links design to challenges of specific regions. Cube is situated in Kerkrade and the greater area of Parkstad. The region suffers from shrinkage and an aging population. What will the developments look like in the near future and how can we make sure the quality of life remains at a high level?
Brightlands HIVE is part of the Smart Service Campus in Heerlen and is often referred to like a bit of Silicon Valley in the south of the Netherlands. It is trying to find new ways of entrepreneurship in times of acceleration, and technological developments like blockchain, decentralized manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and data science. What will these developments look like in the near future and how do we deal with them?
